ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani’s first foremost league showdown with Yusei Kikuchi is anticipated to happen this weekend.
Los Angeles Angels manager Brad Ausmus mentioned Thursday he expects Ohtani to be within the lineup when Kikuchi pitches for the Seattle Mariners at Angel Stadium on Saturday evening.
The matchup would pit the Angels’ AL Rookie of the Year against the Mariners’ unique left-hander for the first time within the majors. They faced every varied five cases in Japan’s prime league.
Ohtani in general gets days off against left-handed pitchers, but Ausmus mentioned his designated hitter “potentially will” hit against Kikuchi this weekend, “except something occurs between at times.”
Ausmus disappointed many Jap followers last week when he saved Ohtani out of the lineup in Seattle whereas the Angels faced Kikuchi.
Ohtani wasn’t but support from Tommy John surgical treatment when Kikuchi faced the Angels for the first time April 20.
The 24-year-outdated Ohtani and the 27-year-outdated Kikuchi attended the identical excessive college in Japan, but never performed on the identical personnel.
